Moroccan Owl - how to

I posted a card made with the Owl Builder Punch & Moroccan Nights stamp set a few days ago. I said that you can section out the large patterned mandala stamp to make a feathered breast for the owl. Here's a quick how-to.

Stamp the large mandala stamp 3 times -  twice in the same colour for the eyes, & once in the colour you want his feathered breast to be.

Punch out the very centre of two of the mandala stamps with a small circle punch or die to make the eyes - I used a 3/4 inch punch, but you could go smaller if you want.

Position the breast section of the punch over the outer portion of the mandala stamp. Move it around a bit until you see the feathers "appear", then punch.

Punch out the whites of his eyes & a darker pupil & cut in the pupil with a little v shaped notch. Colour the heart in orange or punch from orange card. Punch the body in darker card.

Layer it all up - the breast on the body, then the beak. Layer the pupils over the whites, & the whites over the patterned circles & glue in place. Finally, position the completed eyes where you want them & glue in place.

And you're done!

I really like the texture this stamp set adds to the owl builder punch & I hope you do too!

Moroccan Owl birthday card

The new Moroccan Nights stamp set is perfect for jazzing up the Owl Builder Punch

The pattern on the large stamp can be sectioned out and used to punch out the feathered breast of the owl, while its centre makes a good background for googly owl eyes. I punched them out with a 3/4" circle punch, then layered the punch out pieces from the owl punch over the top.

Quite the hootie cutie!

golf card

Clean & simple  isn't usually my style, but you can't beat it for banging out impressive looking cards, quickly.

I CASEd this from a cute card on Pinterest & made it in minutes.  Buying card, papers & ribbons from the same Stampin' Up! collections (in this case, the 2014-16 In Colors) means you can do that without having to worry if stuff will 'go'.

BTW, the golf ball & hole are punched using the small circles from the Owl punch. And the flag is the tip of the Tree punch

Owl punch pop up

Another owl punch card, this time a pop up.

I made not one, but TWO videos. I had SUCH important things to say about it!!

A proper look at the card...

How to cut a window in the front of the card so that you can see the pop up element behind (in this case, the owl).

"Owl" be seeing you....ahem

Ok, that post title was painful. Sorry.

But I was messing around with the Lacy & Lovely stamp set (item no 122887) & it occurred to me that the center of the smallest flower, punched out, would make great owl eyes.

So I used the Stampin' Up! Owl punch (118074) & made the owl as usual. For the eyes, I stamped the Lacy & Lovely flower & punched it out with the 3/4" circle punch (119873).

You can then either punch the middle out of that circle using the larger eye circle from the owl punch (replace the centre with a contrasting colour punched out using the same circle) or just stick the punched out eyes on top.

I really like how it came out - it totally changes the character of the owl.

The stamped circle is the large stamp from the Lacy & Lovely stamp set with the middle punched out. The leaves & 'Hello' are from the Summer Silhouettes stamp set (126447). I used the 'stamp kissing' technique to get the variegated look on the leaves.

The inks are Old Olive, Tempting Turquoise & Real Red from the Brights collection (131182). I used Baked Brown Sugar (131174) for the eyes.
